The Observer at Boston College

Friends and Supporters:

I hope that you enjoy our latest issue of The Observer. This issue focuses on many of our core beliefs as a Catholic, conservative newspaper. During this issue we have had the pleasure of taking on many controversial and exciting issues at BC, such as The Vagina Monologues, academic dishonesty of some liberal professors, and even an Agape Latte talk in which a theology professor attempted to take God out of theology. Such topics have gone unsurprisingly without notice in other campus publications but our young staff has once more stepped up to the plate and delivered a quality newspaper that will finally bring a real sense of dialogue to campus. Now, more than ever, we are standing tall for conservative values and real truth on our campus.
While the content and quality of the newspaper certainly speaks for itself, our behind-the-scenes efforts have been very successful this month as well. Our much-anticipated website has been launched on www.thebcobserver.com. It looks fantastic and I would invite you to join us in writing letters of gratitude to our wonderful webmaster for volunteering to undertake this enormous project, even though she had no prior experience with The Observer.
We are also beginning the arduous process of reviewing the organization’s corporation papers and filing overdue forms with the State of Massachusetts. The State office has been very helpful in pointing us in the right direction so that we can make sure all our paperwork is up to date. We realize that it is very important to retain our “not for profit” status, especially as we hope to begin targeted mass mailings within the next year to bolster our funding. We are creating a list of improvements that we hope to bring about by these mailings. Most important amongst them is our plan to expand the newspaper from 12 to 16 pages as the incredible growth of our staff has left us consistently short of space. The upgrade will cost us just $175 per issue. We are going to review our accounts and see if it is possible to accomplish this upgrade for the last issue of the year without endangering our funding designed to kick-start next year. Thank you once more for your never-failing support. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or feedback you may have about the paper. We are always open to ideas on how to better our newspaper and become a more effective voice on campus.

Sincerely,

Michael Reer
