Congrats BC Hockey

The Observer wants to congratulate the Boston College men’s hockey team for its hard work and superb performances this year on the ice. Making it to the Frozen Four is no small achievement. Our hockey team has given students a number of reasons to take a great deal of pride in BC athletics. The Eagles who take to the ice often go underappreciated by SuperFans here on the Heights. Football and basketball tend to overshadow hockey, and the student sections at the hockey games do not fill up nearly as quickly as the student section in Alumni Stadium does. While the publicity given to other sports is understandable, we at The Observer hope that such publicity does not distract the BC community from hard-working athletes such as those on the hockey team who regularly turn out outstanding performances.

Boston has a long history of hockey. The Bruins have secured a solid place in Boston folklore. The Beanpot is more than a tradition at this point (the winner of whom, we might add, has won the national championship for two years now). Head coach Jerry York has secured his spot as one of the best college hockey coaches of all time. BC’s hockey rivalry with BU is rivaled only by the historically significant football rivalry between the Eagles of BC and the Crusaders of our sister school Holy Cross. The Eagles’ relatively newer rivalries with Notre Dame and Virginia Tech fail to approach the Battle of Comm Ave. BC should take more pride in the hockey team here.

So next season, be sure to get your hockey tickets to support the Eagles. The Observer hopes our readers will take time to follow the hockey finals on EPSN2 and ESPN as the Eagles hope to bring another national championship to the Heights!
